D-Day + 80 Years

Can you help please?
Roade History Society are looking for memories of D-Day from the people of Roade.
To mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day, we are compiling a collection of memories from Roade people of the troop build-up or other events locally including experiences of soldiers on D-Day, which family members may have had recounted to them in the past. If it’s written down, so much the better.
We intend to display these in the Library and Cripps House at the beginning of June.
Please use the contact us button below with anything you have that we can include in the exhibition.

Roade Local History Society - Pianoforte Supplies Limited  (PSL)     Celebrating 100 Years at Roade Village Gala June 2023

On 25th June 2023 Roade Local History Society celebrated the 100 Years Anniversary of Pianoforte Supplies Limited (part of Roade Village Gala)

We celebrated the company's contribution to Roade village’s evolution and the products and economic development of the community. RLHS is fortunate to have within its archive a collection of images, ephemera and memorabilia which we displayed on the day. This fascinating exhibition brought back many memories for ex-employees and family members who took pleasure in viewing the old photographs and documents on display.

At the Northamptonshire Heritage Forum Awards ceremony on Thursday, 6th
October 2022, Chris Hillyard and Ron Johnson were delighted to receive the
Judges Choice Special Commendation on behalf of Roade Local History Society.

“This year, the Judges were particularly impressed with the energy and passion of

Roade Local History Society. The team engaged in a variety of projects and
entered three awards each of which were ‘runner up’ to the eventual winner. The
judges particularly admired the depth of original research and the imaginative ways
the information was used and presented to the public. Their energy and creativity
in interpretation was inspiring. Well done to all the team. The Judges look forward
to seeing more next year.”
